Tracking is a sport whereby a dog follows a human scent trail and locates articles on the scent trail placed by that human. We cannot ‘teach’ a dog to track, they already know how. All dogs have the ability to find and follow scents, some better than others. We concentrate on the dog’s ability to follow the desired scent.
A new sport has emerged over the past few years called K9 Nose Work. This sport uses the power of the canine nose and allows dogs to utilize both their nose and desire to hunt. This sport has reached all different types of dogs of all ages and sizes. It has made basic search-dog skills available to companion dogs. A new sport for dog enthusiasts to learn.
We offer customized private lessons for dogs up to 8 years old.

K9 Academy New England’s Training and Techniques
Basic Training
The five basic commands - Heel, Sit, Stay, Come and Down trained on and off leash.
Positive Motivational Training
I use strictly positive re-enforcement as my technique. A dog learns quicker, gains confidence and respects the owner if they are encouraged to work for a reward rather than work to avoid a punishment. ALWAYS praise your dog for performing a command you give. That’s the key to positive re-enforcement!
Clicker Training
Clicker training is an animal training method based on behavioral psychology that relies on marking desirable behavior and rewarding it. A desirable behavior is marked by using a "clicker," which is a small plastic hand held device that makes a short, distinct "click" sound that tells the dog exactly when they're doing the right thing. This clear form of communication, combined with positive reinforcement, is an effective, safe, and humane way to teach your dog any behavior that a dog is capable of doing.
